On Nationalism and Xenophobia

Last week, the Institute for the Study of Politics (ISP) hosted a three part debate on nationalism and xenophobia in the age of Trump.

Vice president for policy Will Wilkinson kicked things off by examining what drives opposition to Donald Trump.

Guest author Morgan Marietta, and associate professor of political science at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, followed up by exploring the draw of Trumpism as an ideology.

Finally, Niskanen’s director of ISP Jeffrey Friedman rounded out the debate by arguing that nationalism can produce the same type of exclusionary policies that are often attributed to xenophobia.

We encourage you to read these companion pieces in their entirety, and look forward to continuing the debate. You can find the three pieces (in order) here, here, and here.
